This is my airplane's instrument panel at 3660 meters, 12000 feet, 655 millibars as I was flying over the Grand Canyon. The altimeter is the second-lower-leftest gauge that looks like it is reading two o'clock with a small, third hand indicating ten-thousand feet. (Actually I was supposed to be at 11500 feet but I was so busy watching the scenery that I didn't notice the airplane climbing an extra 500 feet.)

Below is the same altimeter at Imperial Airport (IPL) at 17 meters, 56 feet, below sea level.
